The Importance of Health Care
Health care, or healthcare, whichever term you prefer, is the prevention, treatment and management of illness using the services offered by the medical, nursing and allied health professions. Nevertheless, The World Health Organization believes the meaning should also incorporate all related industries and be a service available to everyone irrespective of who they, which means individuals as well as whole groups of individuals. Any collective group of medical professionals and facilities dedicated to providing this would be termed a healthcare system.
Early on before the phrase healthcare was popular, the English speaking nations called it just plain medicine or more commonly the health sector but it still meant the provision of a health service to treat and cure illness and disease. Most developed and even developing countries have a system of healthcare for all to cater for those who cannot pay. Established in 1948, The National Health Service in the UK was the world’s first universal health care system provided by administration.
Alternatively a system of compulsory government funded health insurance with nominal fees can be provided, as with Italy, which, according to The WHO, has the second-best health system in the world. Other examples are Medicare in Australia, established in the 1970s by the Labor administration, and by the same name Medicare in Canada, established between 19.6 and 1984. universal healthcare contrasts to the systems like health care in The USA or South Africa, though South Africa is one of the many countries attempting healthcare reform. health care professionals are dedicated to preventing illness and disease primarily, but also to treat and protect the long expression health of their patients.
The healthcare industry is one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing industries generally consuming at least 10 percent of gross domestic product of most developed nations, healthcare can form a large part of a country’s economy. America has seen some of the largest rises and the figures in 2006 are anticipated to be the same as 2003 with over 15 percent of GDP - it is currently the biggest in the world but the increase by 2016 is expected to be almost twenty percent.
This is causing problems for large numbers of Americans with 180 million currently seeking adequate health care provision and it is also their single largest worry. Numerous large companies in America are feeling the effects of these rises in health care provision and an extreme case was where the car giant General Motors was seriously considering bankruptcy because of it. Luckily, negotiations between the Union and GM management made a deal to reduce some of the benefits but keep operating as usual but the were force to sell off their under performing finance arm GMAC.
Workers in America place this as their number one priority when looking for a possible employer and often will move to a lower paid position just to improve their medical care. Perhaps the situation needs to be looked at from a different angle, one in which individuals are encouraged to stay fit and healthy as societies in general see a decline in the health of its populations.
